Bloody car!

Dear reader,

0630 this morning was not a good time for the car not to start. Can't even get it to the garage.
The local garage will come down here if I drop off the keys which is great. I decided to get all my paperwork for the car out and shock horror, the mot expired 2 days ago. I am so disorganised.

Suppose it's a god send really as I wouldn't have checked otherwise. It also needs the brakes doing and a cam belt change. I would like to have it done before winter sets in. Typical, just as I was getting straight with my money and saving for my insurance so am not best pleased today. Oh well, must be more organised and ensure I have enough for unexpected issues.

How do you budget for your car?

  1. Aww man, not what you need on a Monday, they're hard enough as it is : (
I budget a but by usingthe 2 months that I don't pay council tax to buy a years car tax. I need to be better organised for servicing. I've saved enough for insurance by buying it for a year from my savings then repaying back to the savings account. It's so much cheaper and no paying them interest : )

Hope it's not too expensive x

  2. Sorry to hear about this, not a good start to the week! We budget each month for both cars, tax insurance and mot's and a little for the unexpected. Last month it was hubby's card needing 4 new tyres a years tax and insurance, we were so glad it was all taken care of. Hope your week gets better and the bills are kept to a minimum xx

  3. I save money each month into an online savings account - means that I'm not tempted to spend it on something else - hope you get it sorted soon xxx

    1. Hi Trudie,

I do the same but as I was saying to Karen, above, I usually borrow it for something. Have been putting it in premium bonds so I can't get at it easily. Ha ha,. X

  4. Hope it hasn't cost you too much fib!

I have my tax to buy the end of this month, and four new tyres needed soon.

Hope the rest of your week goes better!

  5. Oops, we have a £700 bill coming for Francesca's car, I save £30 a week for emergencies every week without fail. That has paid for vet bills and now this. It is looking a bit sickly but will soon mount up again.

  6. I too put money aside after every payday; tax + insurance + a guess for MOT and service/repairs = £xxx a year (or £xx every 4 weekly payday) but we put a lot more away, so we can buy another car in the future. We live on fresh air and nothing to fund the car! Anything vital i.e. tyres, wipers, extra repairs comes from those savings.

  7. We have an automated transfer each month of a set amount that goes from our joint (main) account into a savings account specially set up for the purpose. In theory the amount should cover everything from Insurance & tax to a bit of depreciation, but we've been de-railed this year by hefty bills for both MrEH's car (£350) and mine (£500) for work needing done. ALL car expenses come from that account though, with the exception of diesel - so if I spend on wipers, or screenwash say, I transfer the money across from the savings account when the credit card bill arrives.
